Cleveland Strikes first Blood

Kluber reigned supreme for six innings.

As Corey Kluber walked off Progressive Field to a standing ovation, chants of Corey filed the air.  You see, Kluber had just performed at an extremely and highly effective level and for six innings, he breezed through six innings he faced 22 batters, striking out nine to only four hits.  His coaches could not be prouder.

Leading up to their last championship season in 1948, the Cleveland Indians played a instrumental role in racially progressing the league by then Manager Bill Veek signing Larry Dobe a player of of the Negro League’s Newark Eagles.  The following year, Veek would sign Satchel Paige at the age of 42, the oldest rookie to every play in the Majors.  Those and other moves set up their championship run in 1948, 28 years after indians-world-seriestheir first World Series Title.
